Mobile phone footage circulating online appeared to show the Azerbaijani Airlines plane making a steep descent before slamming into the ground in a fireball in western Kazakhstan.

The Russian Emergency Ministry evacuated survivors of a plane crash in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. Nine Russian nationals, including one child, were brought from Aktau to Moscow by a special flight.

Kazakhstan's senate chairman said on Thursday that the cause of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash was still unknown.
