BYU athletics director Tom Holmoe will retire at the end of the Cougars’ 2024-25 athletic season. Holmoe took charge of BYU’s athletics department in 2005. Among the hallmarks of his career, he guided the university’s football program through a decade of independence and eventually into the Big 12 Conference.

Tom Holmoe somehow worked himself into being the longest-tenured athletic director in BYU history. And he did it as well as any person could. On Wednesday, Holmoe will formally announce his retirement at a press conference in Provo.
