China on Monday said that the dam over the Brahmaputra river would not have any negative impact on India and Bangladesh. China has reaffirmed its plans to construct the world's largest dam on the Brahmaputra River in Tibet, near the Indian border. Despite concerns from India and Bangladesh, China insists the dam will not harm downstream countries.

Chinese officials say that hydropower projects in Tibet will not have a major impact on the environment or on downstream water supplies.

Beijing's approval of a controversial mega dam in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, which flows from Tibet autonomous region into India, has sparked concerns about the environmental impact of the project,

China has recently approved the construction of the world's largest Hydropower dam on the Brahmaputra River, also known as the Yarlung Zangbo River in

India expressed concern over China's mega dam on the Brahmaputra and new counties in Ladakh, urging transparency and consultations with downstream nations.

Sources said India was not informed by the Chinese side about the construction of the Brahmaputra dam project, which is the convention between the two countries, and learnt of it from media reports – the project is to cost an estimated $137 billion.
