CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Teachers Union on Thursday accused Chicago Public Schools officials of purposely slowing down contract negotiations. CPS denied doing any such thing—insisting it is bargaining in good faith.

Martinez said CPS maintained its current proposal of 4% raises for CTU members in the first year and 4-5% raises in the next three years, depending on inflation. According to the email, CTU revised its proposed cost-of-living adjustments from 9% every year of the agreement to 6% the first two years and 5% in the final two years.

Members of the Chicago Teachers Union expressed frustration Thursday after spending the day at the bargaining table with fired CEO Pedro Martinez. CTU President Stacy Davis Gates said there was progress when Martinez wasn’t there.
