Hundreds of homes in the Altadena area still had power when a fire erupted there, according to a grid-monitoring company and interviews with residents.

This sensor has the ability to see through the dense smoke of an active fire to the ground beneath, as well as locating the flame front and hot spots in the fire, according to Maxar.

Los Angeles was hit by the most devastating series of wildfires in its history, destroying tens of thousands of acres. Hurricane-like winds have caused the fires to spread unpredictably, complicating firefighting efforts.

More than 29,000 acres have burned so far — and at least 10 deaths have been reported as of 9 p.m. local time on Thursday.
