An Azerbaijan Airlines flight that crashed in Kazakhstan on Christmas Day was downed by a Russian air defence system, a preliminary investigation has found, according to reports.

A passenger plane of Azerbaijan Airlines crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau because it was attacked by Russian air defense, Euronews reports. According to Azerbaijani government sources, the Russians hit the plane with a surface-to-air missile.
