Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to India's first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, commemorating his 135th birth anniversary. Sharing his tribute on X, the Prime Minister posted,

Jawaharlal Nehru was fondly called 'Chacha Nehru' and was known for emphasising the importance of giving love and affection to children. His birth anniversary is celebrated as Children’s Day in India.

Children's day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Nehru, who was fond of children. He came to be known as ‘Chacha Nehru’ He had a deep affection for children and also enjoyed spending time with them.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, a steadfast advocate for children's education and rights, was posthumously honoured in 1964 when the government declared his birth anniversary as Children's Day.
