The Wall Street Journal reported today that OpenAI and Softbank have not been able to agree on key issues regarding the partnership, including where to build the new sites. The group is now aiming to open a single, smaller data center, likely in Ohio, by the end of the year, according to sources familiar with the matter.

OpenAI and Oracle will develop another 4.5 gigawatts of data center capacity, expanding a tie-up that has promised hundreds of billions of dollars in infrastructure investment to keep the U.S. ahead in the global artificial intelligence race.

The Stargate Project, a proposed $500B, four-year initiative to build out artificial intelligence data centers across the U.S. with powerful partners such as SoftBank ( OTCPK:SFTBY ), OpenAI, Microsoft ( MSFT ), Nvidia ( NVDA ), Oracle ( ORCL) and Arm ( ARM ), is struggling to finalize data center deals, according to the Wall Street Journal.
