A school bus driver in La Porte County was arrested for operating a bus intoxicated, charged with two Level 6 felonies after students reported her behavior.

A former Northwest Indiana school bus driver is facing felony charges after being accused of driving under the influence with 32 students onboard, authorities said.

Kayla Pier, 38, of Michigan City, turned herself in on Friday, after an arrest warrant was issued, charging her with one felony count of operating while intoxicated and one felony count of neglect of a dependent.

A school bus driver in Northwest Indiana has been arrested for allegedly operating her bus while intoxicated after students reported her behavior to the school district.

The 38-year-old Michigan City woman was allegedly driving a bus carrying 32 students while she was intoxicated.

Pier was working for the LaPorte Community School Corporation (LPCSC) as a bus driver at the time of the alleged offenses, the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office said. On the afternoon of Sept. 20, Pier was transporting 32 students from LaPorte Middle School to Riley Elementary School.
