Dec 10, 2008 · EDIT: and yes, SMG-III can be made to shift fairly well with carefully timed and measured lifts, but it's still a pain because you're not controlling the clutch, so you can't coordinate clutch/gas. You have to pull the paddle, then learn how to time your lift to your paddle pull so that it lines up with the clutch engagement.

The dealer wanted $3,500 just for the clutch replacement; I'm not surprised, as they get nearly $400 for an oil change.
